April is Earth Month, a time to celebrate our world and take action to protect it. As makers, we often struggle with the challenges of creating objects that are produced responsibly with a minimal carbon footprint. How can we create objects that bring joy to people's homes while being committed to the environment? Over the years, we've made a commitment to ourselves and to the greater good to consciously make business decisions to reduce our impact on the environment. Because, as Thoreau said, "What is the use of a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?"
Our Studio Practices:
- Recycle all metal used in making our products, models and dies.
- Use recyclable and compostable packaging and shipping materials.
- Commit to working with 80% of our vendors and suppliers within a 20 mile radius.*
- Cast products with nearly zero-waste.
- Renovate and maintain our studio building using green technologies.
- Use carbon-neutral shipping alternatives on all retail orders.
- Design timeless products not based on trends, that will be passed down and enjoyed for generations.
*In fact, we located our business here in Rhode Island to be close to our suppliers and manufacturing partners.
