We're Sandi and Jim, and we’re the artists behind every Beehive product
We met studying for our Fine Arts degrees, and were brought together by our love of old coastal towns, looking for cool finds at flea markets, and cooking good meals. We also both loved the craft of metalwork, working with hand tools, and making meaningful things.
How It All Started
Years ago, while living in an old New England farmhouse we had an idea for a collection of metal kitchenware. We were inspired by the practical vintage kitchenware we loved, which was much more beautiful than the plain things in shops. So we got to work designing and making a collection of cups, spoons, and utensils. When we took our first samples to the American Craft Council show that winter, we never could have imagined the incredible response that our work received. Our heart shaped measuring spoons became an instant hit, and our company was born.
The Things We Use (And Wear) Every Day
The Beehive Studio
Shortly after our first trade show, it became apparent that we couldn't run a metalsmithing shop out of a farmhouse, so we moved our studio to a 19th century mill in Fall River, MA and partnered with a generations old silversmithing company near Providence, RI to help with production. In 2014 we changed our name from Beehive Kitchenware to Beehive Handmade to reflect the expansion of our work into baby gifts, holiday ornaments, and jewelry. In 2020 we purchased and restored a vintage garage to be our studio and store in the historic harbor town of Warren, RI.
As it was when we started, every Beehive product begins as a hand-fabricated original object, which is designed and crafted in our studio. We use a variety of traditional and not-so-traditional metalsmithing techniques and processes to make our work. It might get a bit dirty and dusty around here but it’s worth it, because we think it’s important for people to have useful and beautiful things in their home. It just makes life better.
